Tuloy Foundation’s “Santa Football” Brings Hope and Transformation to Filipino Youth

For the children of the Tuloy Foundation, Christmas joy doesn’t just come from presents and carols—it comes from the unwavering dedication of Fr. Mariciano “Rocky” Evangelista, SDB, affectionately known as “Santa Football.” Much like the holiday icon, Fr. Rocky represents hope, generosity, and the power of transformation, but his mission extends far beyond the season.

Through his visionary leadership, Fr. Rocky has used football and futsal as tools to uplift marginalized youth, giving them opportunities to dream big and achieve greatness. His work has earned international acclaim, including the International Humanitarian Award at the 2017 Miss World pageant, solidifying his role as a beacon of hope for street children in the Philippines.

Tuloy FC: A Legacy of Excellence

The Tuloy Foundation’s football program has become a cornerstone of Fr. Rocky’s mission, producing champions on and off the field. Tuloy FC’s women’s futsal team recently clinched their fourth consecutive championship title in the High 5 Women’s Futsal League, capping their campaign with an emphatic 8-1 victory in the finals.

This achievement reflects Fr. Rocky’s long-term vision of preparing these young athletes for international competition, with an eye toward the 2025 Women’s Futsal World Cup. Four standout players—Isabella Bandoja, Lanie Ortillo, Louraine Evangelista, and Mykaella Abeto—recently represented the Philippines in the ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship, showcasing the talent and dedication nurtured within Tuloy FC.

  • Isabella “Nine” Bandoja, the team’s captain, inspires her teammates with her passion and leadership.
  • Lanie Ortillo, a two-time MVP and top scorer, reflects on her journey from Tondo’s streets to the national team, crediting Tuloy Foundation for changing her life.
  • Louraine Evangelista, just 15 years old, has already represented the Philippines in U17 and U20 competitions and is seen as a rising star.
  • Mykaella Abeto, known for her composure and skill, has established herself as the nation’s top futsal goalkeeper.

These young athletes embody Fr. Rocky’s dream of transforming lives through sports, paving the way for a brighter future for Philippine futsal.

Men’s Team Milestones

The success of Tuloy FC’s women’s team is mirrored by the accomplishments of the men’s team, which has 24 players competing in the U23 Youth Development Team in the Philippine Football League (PFL). Players like Harry James Nuñez, Jhon Henson Diaz, Cyrelle James Saut, and John Loyd Jalique have represented the Philippines in U20 competitions, further cementing Tuloy FC’s role as a pipeline for national talent.

Coaching: The Heart of Success

Behind Tuloy FC’s achievements is a dedicated coaching staff, led by Technical Director Coach Taketomo Suzuki and supported by eight former players who now mentor the next generation. Their passion and commitment ensure the continued growth of Tuloy Foundation’s programs, developing not only athletes but also individuals ready to contribute to society.

A Vision for the Future

“This isn’t just about winning trophies,” Fr. Rocky emphasizes. “It’s about changing lives, giving these kids a sense of purpose, and showing them that they are capable of greatness.”

With the support of organizations like the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and champions of grassroots development like Mr. Danny Moran, the Tuloy Foundation has created opportunities that transform dreams into reality. The journey ahead includes preparing for the historic 2025 FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup, with Tuloy FC leading the charge.
